"I have to be ruthless, Fram, otherwise, I let them back in, and then I play rubbish!

She was playing better and better, and she was running after everything, so I had to hit the ball even harder....

Still a couple of errors though...

[2] Sarah-Jane Perry 3-0 [8] Sally Skaarenborg (Den)
                       11/5, 11/6, 11/3 (24m)

RUTHLESS SARAH-JANE

A squash lesson really, that was. All credit to lovely Sally, who run her legs off, and never gave up. She got frustrated as the English girl was depatching her Ramy-like shots all over the court, but was gracious in defeat and still run miles, forcing a few errors out of SJ.

A credit to Squash that match was.

"It's the time I play Sarah-Jane, and she's got a complete different game than all the other girls. Anything a bit short of loose you give her, she'll just go for it. And she is so tall, it's difficult to get pass her, your width has got to be perfect at all times.

Her accuracy is just too good. And great racquet skills.

[3] Maud Duplomb 3-0 [5] Zephanie Curgenven
                       12/10, 11/6, 11/7 (22m)

MAUD, SHORT FOR ONCE!!!

Not sure what's going on, must be something in the Corsican water, as both SJ and Maud stayed as little as possible on court today. Well, Sarah-Jane is famous for attacking at will, you can understand. But Maud bless her, is normally more of a runner/grinder kind of player, and herself was pleasantly surprised with the shortness of her match.

Still, it was not that easy, and the first game was probably crucial. Not more than one point the whole way through, honestly, great game, nice rallies, great angles from Zephanie, great speed on court from Maud picking them up. But it's the French lady that clinches the last two rallies, 12/10.

The second started on the same mode, up to 7/7, but the English girl seemed a bit tired at the point, I guess the warm conditions is more difficult for the British than it is for Maud who lives in Toulon!

Still, Zephanie, having rested after the second, came back to fight back, and stayed again pretty close up to 7/7, but there again, Maud very strong and finish the match, 11/7.

Last time I played against her in Edinburg, she beat me 3/1, so I had a revenge to take I guess.

I've been training on the speed at the start of the run, so I was moving pretty fast on there, and maybe she was not as fast as she was last time, so I had plenty of time on the ball.

It's very warm - although the court is the coolest place here - and I guess it was difficult for her. I hope it will be difficult for Sarah Jane tomorrow as well, who I never played, looking forward to that one.

In fact, it's nice to win matches quickly and not 2 hours. I should do more of that...

Zephanie & Sarah-Jane

"I went on court today very confident after yesterday's match. Being down 2/0 and winning 3/2, that's enough to give confidence to anybody!

I won the first very easily, and the second, I went really too confident, and that is not good! And she played well, she got some nice shots in.

In the 3rd, she was up 10/7, and I just told myself that I had nothing to lose, and went for it.

No, I don't think that me hitting her affected her or her game at all.

Tomorrow, I don't mind who I'm playing, I'll just go on there and play my game!

A special thank you to Maud who was referring us, she is really good!

[Q] Nadeen Shahin 3-1 [7] Chloé Mesic
                        11/3, 8/11, 13/11, 11/6 (28m)

NADEEN UNSTOPPABLE....

A bit of a weird match that one was. A full of self belief for the young Egyptian led her to suprise her opponent completely, taking the first game in no time, 11/3. The second, well, was exactly the reverse, Nadeen was too relaxed, while Chloé played an excellent game, tooking her opponent by surprise with her speed and accuracy.

And the 3rd was only starting when Nadeen hit Chloé quite violently on the left elbow (the French girl is lefthanded), making her not only bleed, but impairing her flexion/extension movement as a lump appeared.

As it was a contributed injury, Chloé put some ice on it, strapped it, and about 15m later, was back on court, and tried and forgot about the accident. She even went on leading 10/7, but despite 4 game balls, coudln't close it down, and it's the Egyptian that took that crucial game, 13/11.

The French girl took an excellent start 3/0, but the Egyptian had the belief she wouldn't been beaten, and she was always at least two points ahead, taking the match 11/6 in the 4th...

In the fourth, not sure what happened really. My elbow was hurting, of course, but it was more like if I was drained completely. I guess it must be the exams I just finished, and the stress I encountered.... Oh well, it's all about experience...

[6] Laura Pomportes (Fra) 3-1 [1] Brigit Coufal (Aut)
                        8/11, 11/4, 11/9, 11/7

AND THE UPSET....

For the greatest pleasure of the French crowd, Laura Pomportes, WR74 supported by long term boyfriend Mathieu Castagnet, defeated our seed number 1, Birgit Coufal, WR 56, in a superbly disputed and fair match where both girls gave their all.

First game was dominated by the Austrian who placed her attacking shots to perfection, while keeping Laura to the back with a pinpoint accuracy straight drives. Leading 7/3 up, she got caught up at 8/8 but ended wining the next 3 points rather easily, 11/8.

But from the second on, Laura was obviously more at her ease on that warm court - she loves the running bit - while Birgit, having in her bag a lot of attacking shots, would have preferred a bit of colder conditions...

The third I guess was the turning point, Birgit was up 7/3, but Laura, taking advantage of her opponent making a few errors too many, got back to 7/7. 8/8. 9/9.

But this time, it's the French girl that gets the last two attacks, 11/9, and 2/1 for Laura, who led the 4th the whole way, to take the second best win of her young career.

I really would like to stress how wonderful it's been to interview Birgit, who I didn't know, and who has been so nice and available during this tournament. Thanks ever so much, Birgit, and I hope to see you soon.

Birgit has got some great hands, and plays a very clever squash, great tactical squash. And sometimes I played some good shots, thinking she wouldn't get them, but she did every time, don't  you worry!!! She is a great player, very fair, and I'm really lucky she made a few errrors.

I think the warm conditions were an advantage for me today.

I guess what made the difference between the game I lost and the one I won was that I was more inscisive at the front, I took more chances and was more confident with my shots - volley drop and boasts as the match unfold.....

I played Laura three weeks ago, I knew what to expect, I knew how much running I would have to do, as it keeps coming back, once, twice, three times....

I made a few errors too many, that makes a difference on a close match like that. I don't know, I put myself under so much pressure, like I have to do a fantastic shot every time, which is complete rubish... I just should play simple, and keep the ball going...

CUBS SUMMARISES FOR YOU
FROM SUNNY ENGLAND

The main draw of the inaugural Corsican WSA got off to an early start in Ile Rousse, with the only upset of the day coming in the lunchtime session which featured three matches.

ZephanieDenmark’s Sally Skaarenborg and England’s Zephanie Curgenven, the eighth andf fifth seeds, both won in straight games, but further Scandinavian interest in the quarter-finals was thwarted by Egyptian qualifier Nadeen Shahin who overcame Norwegian fourth seed Lotte Eriksen in a thrilling five-setter, coming from 2-0 down to take the last two games 16/14, 12/10.

The evening session didn’t see any more upsets, but was a fruitful one for the French as Maud Duplomb, Chloe Mesic and Laura Pomportes all progressed, as did top seeds Birgit Coufal and Sarah-Jane Perry.

The French are kept apart in the quarter-final lineup of Perry v Skaarenborg, Duplomb v Curgenvenm, Mesic v Shahin and Coufal v Pomportes, streamed live on SiteSquash.com from 18.00 on Wednesday.
